A flight with a toddler is a war of attention. The only strategy that consistently works: new or long-hidden toys, introduced in timed bursts. Not a Nintendo Switch at hour one. This guide covers what actually works, by age.
Buy or rent a stack of small new toys. Introduce them one at a time, spaced every 20–30 minutes. The novelty buys time; the pacing extends the novelty.
Wrap each one in paper for the unwrap moment. Unwrapping adds 3–5 minutes before the toy itself starts working.
Teethers, cloth books, a small mirror, a stacking cup. Bring more diapers than you think. Breastfeeding / bottle during takeoff and landing to equalize ear pressure.
Reusable sticker books, small cars, a finger puppet, spiral-bound board books, small chunky puzzles.
Window clings, Magnatiles (small travel set), Play-Doh (solid), washable markers + paper, wikki stix, toy animals.
Travel games, card games (Uno), activity books, audiobook with headphones, small Lego set.
